Rich has been recognized for his poetry since college. His first poems were published in his college's poem magazine. Most recently his poems have appeared in the Aziza Review and a 2011 anthology of poetry.

Now all of Rich's best poems are available in a single volume, Paraphernalia in My Pocket. This collection focuses on several themes including, love, death, nature, emotions, and relationships. There are also poems that do not fit any category, such as poems on being middle aged, and observations about life.
